Great Wordpress Tutorial Videos

My last post talked about why I’m using Wordpress to create all my affiliate mini-sites. Well now I’d like to talk about a really excellent website that teaches you how to become a Wordpress master in no time.

If you look at my previous post, I mentioned a gentleman by the name of Sherman Hu. I have had the pleasure of communicating with him several times and he is one of the few marketers out there that really cares about his customer’s success.

He has created a fantastic membership site called WordpressTutorials.com.

If you really want to learn about Wordpress in a step by step easy to follow fashion. This site is for you.

Wordpress is definitely one of the simplest blogging platforms to get started with but there are tons of customizations you need to know about to make your blogs much more search engine friendly as well as giving it the right look and feel.

There is actually a nice page there that explains in more detail why you want to learn Wordpress through WordpressTutorials

Go check out the Sherman’s site and start becoming a Wordpress master yourself!

Why I am using Wordpress for Niche Affiliate Sites

I made a decision to create all my affiliate websites using Wordpress. Create your websites using Wordpress?? Isn’t Wordpress just used for blog sites??

Well, Yes and No.

Yes, Wordpress is a great platform for blogging, no doubt. I like it for 3 reasons over the other platforms. Thanks to Sherman Hu’s excellent video for helping with the summary

  1. Cost
  2. Easy to Use and Productivity
  3. Ownership

Cost:Wordpress is free. Well, so is Blogger and MSN Spaces. But I’ll explain why I don’t like those platforms below. The other main platforms, Typepad and Moveable Type have costs associated with them.

Easy to Use and Productivity: I find Wordpress very easy to intall and set up - lot’s of hosting companies such as Host Gator Shared Web Hosting have install programs such as Fantisco to make it a very easy process. Wordpress is very easy to configure and there are many developers that are writing new themes or designs as well as plugins or little mini add on programs to help make your site unique.

Blogger is much less flexible and I find it’s slow to even get a post online. Typepad and Moveable Type are much more complex to use

Ownership: Wordpress’s biggest advantage is that it’s free to download and install on your own web server. I don’t know if any of you have had a Blogger account disabled for any reason? Well, that’s not something I want to experience, especially after I put my heart on soul into a new blog.

Again, the other platforms are hosted on their servers.

So to summarize, you can see that I’m really liking Wordpress as a platform.

But you ask, “That’s great but you still didn’t explain why you want to build your affiliate websites with Wordpress”

Ok, OK, let me explain a bit more. Remember, I mentioned about themes and plugins?

That’s what makes Wordpress unique and flexible. There are themes out there that modify the look and feel of your Wordpress blog site so that they look just like a normal website.

The plugins help you manage your site and add search engine optimization features so that your site can be more search engine friendly to Google and the other SE’s.

I will be using a theme from one of my online memberships that make put up niche affiliate sites a breeze. Then you can use all the great content management features of Wordpress to add new content to the site as time goes on.

I think this will be a killer combination. I’ll discuss some of these tools and memberships in my upcoming articles and posts. Chau for now…

I’m still playing with WP

Well, its been a whole day now and I must have changed the layout, width, theme, header and various other configuration properties about 100 times already. What’s really interesting is that every different configuration option displays a little bit different content. Sometimes I get the calendar, sometimes I get the categories, and others I get the links.

I still need to figure out how to get the content I want on the page where I want it. I’m wondering if this lite version of the semiologic pro theme is purposely doing this to me.

Anyway, Ill keep futzing with it and maybe I’ll figure out a few things along the way. I’m still waiting for Marc Lindsay’s new template from my PLR Pro membership. I’ll write about that in another article to come…
